Composite Fillings in Hamilton

Tooth-coloured fillings repair cavities while blending seamlessly with your natural teeth. These discreet white fillings restore strength and appearance while preserving your tooth's natural structure.

Restore the Natural Look and Feel of Your Teeth.

From repairing minor decay to preventing more serious dental issues, fillings are one of the most effective and frequently performed procedures in our practice. Our tooth-coloured composite resin fillings are colour matched to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth. Compared to traditional amalgam fillings, composite resin bonds more effectively to the tooth structure, requires less drilling, and delivers a result that looks and feels completely natural.

Why Are Fillings So Important?

Treating cavities early helps protect your teeth and prevent more serious dental problems. Fillings are important because they:

  • Stop Decay from Spreading – Prevent cavities from growing and causing further damage.
  • Prevent Pain and Infection – Help prevent decay from reaching the inner tooth and causing infection.
  • Restore Tooth Strength – Reinforce weakened teeth and restore their function.
  • Save You Money – Early treatment can help prevent the need for more complex procedures later.
  • Reduce Sensitivity – Protect exposed areas of the tooth from hot and cold temperatures.
  • Preserve Your Natural Smile – Help keep your teeth healthy and strong for years to come.

How is a cavity filled?

Gentle Freezing

Before treatment begins, we carefully numb the area to ensure your comfort. Many patients feel anxious about this step, but our gentle approach helps make the experience as comfortable as possible. Once the area is frozen, your tooth and surrounding tissues will be numb, allowing your filling to be completed with little to no discomfort.

Filling the Tooth

Once the area is fully frozen, we carefully remove the decay and prepare the tooth for restoration. A bonding agent is applied, followed by a tooth-coloured composite filling material that is shaped and sculpted to match the natural contours of your tooth and bite. This ensures a strong, comfortable, and natural-looking result.

Curing the Filling

Once the tooth-coloured filling material has been placed and shaped, a special LED curing light is used to quickly harden and strengthen it. Your dentist will then check the fit and bite, make any necessary adjustments, and polish the restoration for a smooth, natural-looking finish.

The Cost of a Filling in Hamilton

Fillings are a routine and effective way to prevent more serious dental problems, and most insurance plans provide significant coverage. With typical insurance, you may pay anywhere from $0 to $100+. Without insurance, fillings generally range from $120 to $300+, especially if multiple fillings are required.

The exact cost of treatment depends on several factors, including:

  • Your current oral health
  • The number of fillings needed
  • The location of the cavity
  • Whether new X-rays are required
  • The time needed for your treatment
  • The materials and equipment required

Treating cavities early is important, as fillings help prevent more complex procedures, reduce the risk of dental pain, and support long-term oral health.

Frequently Asked Questions

With a normal daily brushing and flossing routine and regularly scheduled cleanings and checkups, your fillings should last well over ten years.
Fillings used to be done with an alloy called ‘dental amalgam’ and had many nicknames such as “silver” and “mercury” fillings. While there is plenty of debate over the safety of amalgam fillings, according to the Canadian Dental Association, scientific studies have not verified that dental amalgam is causing illness in the general population. So if you currently have silver fillings, don’t fear!
There are over-the-counter products available to temporarily fill a cavity or minor tooth damage until you can make it to the dentist but they are not a permanent solution and cannot replace a professional filling. A cavity is permanent tooth damage that must be cleaned, prepared and filled by a dental professional. There are severe risks to letting dental decay continue to worsen. If left untreated, cavities can lead to tooth loss and tooth abscess.
If you are experiencing severe pain that prevents you from eating or sleeping, this is considered a dental emergency and we urge you to call us right away. We can give you advice over the phone and see you as soon as possible. For temporary relief of toothache, apply a cold compress to your face over the painful area. You may be able to take the edge off your pain by taking a pain reliever like acetaminophen (ex. Tylenol) or ibuprofen (ex. Advil). Always follow the advice of your doctor and read the instructions on the bottle when taking any medication. Make a note of what medication, how much and the time it was taken so you can let us know when you come in.

Absolutely love this dental office. I’ve been coming here for years, and the care is consistently fantastic. Patricia, one of the dental assistants, always makes my visits so much better—she’s kind, calming, and genuinely goes out of her way to make sure I’m comfortable. Couldn’t recommend them more.

Grover dental is a excellent dentist practice if you have anxiety. They're very mindful of their patients and they make sure you're doing okay throughout the whole process. If you need a minute they'll accommodate you as best as they can. I had an anxiety attack through a filling getting done and both Dr. Whig as well as his assistant Zel did a great job talking me through the attack and gave me time to settle. Would highly recommend

I just recently had a cleaning, x rays, and check up done. I was treated by Amanda and she was a phenomenal hygienist. Attentive, funny, kind, and knowledgeable. Even with interruptions during the cleaning, she handled it very professionally and made sure I was comfortable. I will definitely request her to be my hygienist in the future! Excellent service from the front desk staff and dentist as well!
