What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is the modern alternative to braces that employs a series of clear aligners made specifically for you.

The aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable and virtually invisible plastic that fit over your teeth and gradually shift them into place, using the precise procedure we plan out for you.

There’s no metal brackets and nothing to tighten. Every two weeks, you just pop in a new set of clear aligners until your treatment is complete.

Achieve the smile you want with little interference to your daily life. Contact our Hamilton Dentist to discos Invisalign procedure In more depth.

Advantages of Invisalign

Since the clear plastic aligners used for Invisalign are virtually invisible, most people will be unable to see them—a benefit that makes Invisalign one of the most popular orthodontic solutions available today. In addition to discretion, Invisalign can offer many other advantages compared to traditional braces, including:

  • Removable aligners that allow patients to eat, drink, and clean their teeth with ease
  • Very thin, low-profile aligners that are much more comfortable than wires and brackets that can irritate the inside of the mouth
  • Fewer visits to the dentist during treatment since the aligners do not need to be adjusted like traditional wires and brackets
  • A lower total cost, depending upon the patient’s needs
  • Faster treatment—Invisalign patients can often achieve optimal results in less time

The Invisalign Process

During the initial consultation, one of our Hamilton dentists will examine your teeth, review your expectations for treatment, and help determine if Invisalign is the best option to meet your goals. If you are a candidate for Invisalign, a series of custom-made clear aligners will be designed and fabricated using a 3D model of your teeth. The total number of aligners will depend on your specific needs, and your doctor will instruct you on how long to wear each one before switching to the next aligner in the set.

Candidates for Invisalign

Candidates for Invisalign® typically have mild to moderate conditions such as:

  • Crowded teeth
  • Teeth separated by unattractive gaps
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite

Invisalign can help patients suffering from a wide range of issues including crooked teeth, gum defects, excessive plaque accumulation and more. When teeth are properly aligned, it helps the gums fit more securely, allowing for the strongest defense against periodontal problems. Invisalign aligners gradually move your teeth into this proper position with clear and comfortable trays that won’t irritate your cheeks or gums.

What to Expect With Invisalign

When beginning treatment, there are a few things you will have to adjust to. Some patients experience a slight lisp, but this usually goes away after a short time. There may be soreness or pressure from teeth movement, but it’s a good pain — one that indicates your treatment is working. Also, since your teeth will be moving, your bite may feel a little weird at first.

On a more positive note, our patients receive compliments that their teeth look shinier and straighter when just starting the Invisalign treatment due to how smooth the aligners are.

Throughout treatment, your Invisalign trays will likely be changed every two weeks. There are slight variations depending on the rate of teeth movement, however, and this can be modified by one of our preferred Invisalign providers by creating fewer movements per aligner. If this change is necessary, your trays will be changed weekly, but this won’t affect the final treatment period.

For best results, you should wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day, throughout the entire treatment. At every stage, you’ll be able to see the changes bringing you closer to the confident smile you want.

How Much Does Invisalign Cost?

Talk with your preferred Invisalign provider about the value of a professional fit and in-office visits to track your progress. And then ask about the cost of your Invisalign treatment (often $3,000 to $8,000 in Canada). This will be determined by:

  • The complexity of your case
  • How long you are in treatment
  • Your orthodontic insurance coverage

Your smile is an investment in yourself!

The cost of Invisalign treatment is similar to braces, but that’s where the similarity ends. Invisalign clear aligners are removable and virtually invisible, so you can keep living your life and can continue to care for your teeth in the same manner as you always have throughout treatment.
