About The Program
This program is intended for those who do not already receive another form of government-funded health care due to their refugee status. The government of Canada defines refugees as people “who have been forced to leave their country & who are afraid to return because of war, violence or persecution based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social group.”
Refugees have a long history of finding relative peace in Canada, & come from a wide variety of backgrounds. If you belong to one of these groups, the IFHP may be able to help you. Note that in addition to what is traditionally thought of as refugee status, victims of human trafficking, protected persons, victims of domestic violence & more may also qualify for the program.
